The Hogennakal Falls, located on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border, are a wondrous sight to behold! The mighty Cauvery River appears in all its majesty, unfolding its beauty and strength at Hogennakal. This place has gained prominence only because of these falls. A very big tourist attraction, the Hogennakal Falls are among the best in the country. For those who are fond of travelling and sight-seeing, these falls form can be truly awe-inspiring!

I am a journalist in the making, and when I first heard that a trip to the Hogennakal Falls was being organised by the college where I study, I felt delighted! It took us almost four hours to reach Hogennakal from Bangalore, by bus.

The place by itself is a tiny hamlet in Tamil Nadu. There is nothing else worthwhile here to see, except the falls, of course.

I am an avid traveller, and at the first sight of the Cauvery itself, my adrenaline started racing!

At first glance, the river looked quite mild, calm and smooth-flowing. However, as we walked further in, past the big boulders and closer to the river, we came into direct view of the river!

It appeared that the Cauvery was at its best. She was flowing in full force, filled with life and a vibrancy that must be seen to be experienced! I understood then why rivers are so important, as they are the very source of life itself.

The Hogennakal Falls are not only a source of potable water, but also have medicinal qualities. Many people come here to bathe in these splendid waters, as well as to pray to the river goddess.

The Cauvery River is worshipped, like the Ganga. In fact, all rivers in India are worshipped, as they water lakhs of hectares of fertile land, which feeds the millions of people in this vast country.

The Hogennakal Falls have been featured in many Indian movies too and are a popular choice for several movie directors.

For those of you who haven't been here, I strongly recommend that you visit this place.
For, the Hogennakal Falls will surely leave you spellbound!

Quick facts:

Hogenakkal is around 150 km from Bangalore. Take the Hosur road and drive through Hosur and Krishnagiri, turn left after Krishnagiri and reach Dharmapuri. Drive into Dharmapuri and ask for directions to the fall. Another 30-km drive takes you to Hogenakkal.
